What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

So sorry, faithful readers. I fear that I've let you down. I just kinda realized that my last update was from Hungary and decided that was unacceptable. So here we go...

Today felt like summer for sure. As soon as we got up, Nicole and I decided that we needed to make mulberry pancakes. She went to the other side of campus and picked mulberries from a tree near the fieldhouse and then we spent the next half hour or so in the kitchen experimenting with brunch. YUM. I love experiments.

Then I went with Parker and Michelle to the Frederik Meijer Gardens. Have I ever mentioned that I love baby-sitting? Because I do. We played in the fountains and in the sand and in the children's story-telling garden. I can't believe that I had never actually gone after living here for three years. All you future GR residents (*ahem* Dave and Amanda) remind me to take you there sometime soon. It's amazing and it's a must-see attraction. :)

After the Gardens, I read Wicked outside in the sun. I really need to finish that book before I get too much deeper into my research paper. It seems that I've been working on that beast during all my spare time. It's seriously cutting into my summer reading obligations.

After I'd had my book fix, Nicole and I took a walk to the "secret garden" behind Holmdene to check out the tadpoles in the pond. There we encountered three cheerful bull frogs, two of whom sang us a few little ditties. One of them was on a powertrip and had to be all macho as if he were king of the pond. Silly froggie.

I hope all is going well for everyone out there. I think I'm going to call it a night because tomorrow's another fun-filled day for Lizzie the crazed baby-sitter.

Peace out (and in).

So I just got out of my last neuro class here in Hungary. I must admit that I was kind of sad, but just as we were leaving, our Professor assigned us a 30 page paper to work on for the summer. PHEW! I thought I would go into neuro withdrawl. Thank goodness she took care of that for me. :)

I think I will do my paper on the difference in energy consumption between the pre and post neurorehabilition of paretic patients. I am looking forward to starting my research. It should be a busy summer.

In the meantime, I think I am ready to come home now. I will miss the Danube, the beautiful views of the city, as well as the hot chocolates. Oh, and the Petö. I will miss the Petö, too of course. It has been a great three weeks, but I am ready to see more familiar faces and hear more English.

Hope all is going well for everyone back home. :)

Peace in,
Lizziebear

So these last few days were entertaining to say the least. Yesterday, after a day of neuro and baby assessments (yay!) I climbed a mountin in high heels. No joke. And a big mountain at that.

On our way to the mountain, we rode a train that is operated by children. Yes. Children. It is a very serious job, evidentally. The best of the best students are allowed to take one day off of school each week to work on the railroad. Evidentally there are no child labor laws in Hungary. Regardless, it was precious and I have pictures.

I heard the the other girls missed their connection in Frankfurt on their way home, making them arrive at 11 pm instead of 4. I sure hope that Kasey and I fair better, as I fear I cannot stand making it a 31 hour trip. Eee gads.

Well I am off to class. Thank goodness I love class...

In other news, poor Kasey got caught in the bus door this morning and has bleeding all over from her Achilles. These Hungarians are ruthless about getting off the bus. Poor girl...

Peace out,
Lizzie

So folks, we are officially in the home stretch. In less than a week, I will be home, hopefully tucked in bed with the cat, sleeping like a baby.

This last week will be quite a bit more relaxed then the past two have been. This should be good because I should have a lot more free time and such, but I need to keep busy or else the time will drag.

This morning, Kasey and I went to the petö to observe a kindergarten integration group. Most of the kids there were mild cases, and a few had no motor disability at all. It was really interesting to see the program. It is so much different than what I am used to in GR.

This evening, we will head back to see the good night program in Szandras group (still no apostrophe). I am not sure if I mentioned it before, but many of the groups here are residential, and the kids stay for the whole week and go home to their families on the weekends. At first I was a little uncertain about my thoughts on this format, but now I think I really like it. The kids are able to learn so many more self-care activities this way, and they have so much more time for socialization which is a particular challenge with this population.

Well someone else needs to use the computer now. I try to take turns...

Peace out,
Lizzie

Once again, I find that I have a little bit of time here during my lunch break. I just ate my sandwhich and apple and now I am waiting for my afternoon of neurophys. It should be really good because we will watch an EEG being performed on two little twin boys. This morning was also good because we watched the babies (SQUEEEEE!!!!) and then the ataxic group.

Thank goodness that it is almost the weekend. I think we might try to go to Lake Balaton on Saturday, although orignally we were planning to go to Vienna or Prague. I guess it will depend on how adventurous we are all feeling.

Just thought I would say a quick hello to everyone. I hope all is going well...

Peace, peace, peace...

So here I sit in the lab at the petö. Today has been busy already and I am not even halfway done. Today, all is well. It has been a heavy neuro day, which is of course my favorite. We got to sit in on another neurological assessment, and I loved it! I honestly think that is what I want to do with the rest of my life.

The other night we went to the home of one of my professors for dinner. It was oh so yummy. She even had some super tasty translyvanian red wine. It was so thick and sweet. One would think it looked like blood. Those poor translyvanians just cannot get away from all those vampire stereotypes! What a pity...

Last night we went to the top of the gellért hill, which is right on the buda side of the city. It is so beautiful and we had an amazing view. My pictures will not do it justice for sure.

Soon the three other girls will head for home and only Kasey and I will be left to fend for ourselves. That last week looks from our schedule to be a bit calmer, so that will certainly be a nice change of pace.

Well, I had better get a move on, and head back to neuro. When there are only two students in the class, it becomes obvious when you are late!

Peace in and peace out...
Lizzie
